this is what you’ll find around us

In the neighborhood

We encourage you to get to know our neighborhood during your stay. There’s a lot to choose from, and we recommend that you take a trip down to the center of Lillehammer. Below, we’ve also gathered some of the things we think you should do, both in terms of restaurants and nightlife, urban environment and nature. In addition, we have a great overview of the various activities you can participate in when you’re in Lillehammer.

Mesna River

The river that runs through our city is called Mesna, and in ancient times it was used as an energy source for the city’s industry. Today it is beautifully situated just outside the hotel. Feel free to fill up your thermos, head out into the woods and enjoy the tranquillity of the river. This is also a popular area for the city’s residents.

Svarga

Marcello Haugen (b. 1879 – d. 1967) lived in Svarga and was one of the valley’s clairvoyants. People came here from far and wide to be healed or to find the “cow” that had gone missing. The house has an idyllic location and is now privately owned. The walk up to Svarga along the river is fantastic and suitable for young and old alike.

Channels

At the top of the VIP road, which leads up to the ski jumps, you’ll find the canal. Take a walk along the bank to the new bathing area. Further into the forest there are plenty of hiking trails, a shelter and campfire sites; just follow the footpath inwards. Bring hot dogs in your backpack and hot chocolate in your thermos for a nice break. Feel free to ask us about other great hikes!

Lillehammer city center

Our city is known as a unique city with its charming shopping environment, rich cultural life and lovely warm atmosphere. The old wooden buildings make the pedestrian street the city’s main artery, and has had city status ever since 1842. From the hotel, it’s an 8-minute walk down to the city center.

Maihaugen

Norway’s largest open-air museum is within walking distance of us. Here you’ll find 200 buildings from different eras, exhibitions and places to eat. You’ll enjoy great cultural experiences and many activities for children and adults. Sigrid Undset’s home also belongs to Maihaugen, but is only a few hundred meters from the hotel.

Olympic Park

Our hotel is located in the middle of the Olympic facilities from 1994 and 2016. It’s within easy reach of many venues in both summer and winter. Take the 936 steps up to the top of the ski jump to enjoy the view.

Birkebeineren is a cozy hotel with a fantastic location in Lillehammer. Here you can feel at home, even if you’re away. Settle down in the fireplace lounge with a book, and put your feet up on the sofa if you like. You’ll enjoy it here!

Welcome to us!
